OBEL Mito Compact On Demand M60 Coffee Grinder

On demand means the grinder holds no ground coffee waiting for somebody to want it. Each dose is ground fresh into the portafilter at the moment it is pulled, which is the difference between coffee that tastes like this morning and coffee that tastes like yesterday.

Sixty-millimetre steel burrs do the work, driven at 1400 rpm by a motor mounted on anti-vibration components — so it grinds quietly enough to sit in a room where people are talking. Grind adjustment runs on stepped notches that click through the range predictably, so a change is repeatable rather than a guess.

The portafilter fork adjusts for height and the clip adjusts to fit, which between them mean it holds whatever portafilter you already own and drops the grind cleanly into the basket. Hands free, so the other hand is doing something useful. Single and double doses are set independently on the LCD display, which also counts doses, so you know what the machine has actually done rather than what someone thinks it has done.

It comes apart easily for cleaning. The ground coffee spring is user-replaceable. Neither sounds exciting until the day it matters.
