Obel Mito Up Touch M64 Performance Coffee Grinder

The step from the M60 to the M64 is not really about the four extra millimetres of burr. It is the fan.

Burrs heat up when a grinder works continuously, and heat is the enemy of what is in the bean — it dulls the cup and makes the grind clump on the way out. Forced air ventilation pulls that heat away, so the hundredth dose of the morning grinds the same as the first. That, plus high-production burrs and a 500-watt motor, is what makes this the grinder for a site that does not get a quiet hour.

The hopper holds 1.2 kilograms, so nobody is topping up between customers. Doses are set on a 2.8-inch touchscreen — single and double independently, plus a manual mode for when the recipe is being changed rather than repeated. Grind adjustment runs on the same stepped notches as the rest of the Mito range, so a change is repeatable.

The portafilter fork adjusts for height and holds the basket hands free, which matters more the busier it gets. The motor sits on anti-vibration mounts and stays quiet. It comes apart easily for cleaning, and the ground coffee spring is user-replaceable.

Its footprint is identical to the M60 — 21 by 33 centimetres. The extra capacity goes upward, not sideways, so stepping up does not cost you counter.
